Nottingham Forest Eye Premier League Rival Boss as Long-Term Postecoglou Replacement
Nottingham Forest Eyes Long-Term Replacement as They Contemplate Sacking Ange Postecoglou After Seven Games
Nottingham Forest has identified Marco Silva as a potential long-term managerial successor, should they decide to dismiss current boss Ange Postecoglou. Despite ongoing discussions, any formal move for Silva from Fulham is unlikely before the end of the season.
Sources revealed that Forest is considering whether to replace Postecoglou after a challenging start—just seven games into his tenure, with five resulting in defeats and two draws. The club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, tends to hire managers who are out of work to avoid lengthy negotiations, which could influence the timing of any decision.
While Silva remains under contract with Fulham until the season’s end, his significant release clause makes him a candidate mainly for top-tier clubs with deep finances. Notably, Silva was approached by Portuguese giants Benfica last season but opted to stay in England at that time.
Postecoglou was appointed on September 9 following Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure. His tenure has been under scrutiny, with the team currently sitting 17th in the league, just above the relegation zone. Upcoming fixtures include matches against Chelsea, Porto, and Bournemouth within nine days after the international break.
Meanwhile, Marinakis has been seen attending a Champions League match featuring Olympiacos, which has sparked speculation about his interest in other high-profile managers. Rafael Benitez, who is eager to return to club management in England, has a good relationship with Marinakis and could be a candidate if a change becomes necessary. His last managerial role was at Celta Vigo, ending in March 2024.
