NYC Woman Cynthia Vann Dies After Sleep At:ta:ck by Roommate at Bronx Hospital
Hospital Roommate Attack Resulting in Fatal Injury
A 55-year-old woman from the Bronx passed away after being assaulted by her hospital roommate, who was known for violent behavior, according to her family. Cynthia Vann was sleeping in her room at Lincoln Hospital in Mott Haven when she was attacked, leading to severe head injuries that required emergency surgery.
Vann was receiving treatment for liver issues at the time of the assault. She sustained head wounds and remained hospitalized for two weeks before succumbing to her injuries on September 27. Her death has been classified as a homicide, caused by blunt force trauma.
Her daughter, Taneisha Vann, expressed her heartbreak and frustration, noting that the hospital had been aware of her mother’s violent roommate. “She didn’t deserve this. No one should be assaulted while sleeping in a safe place,” she said. The hospital informed her of her mother’s roommate’s concerning past, though it is unclear if the suspect has faced charges related to Vann’s death.
Taneisha Vann criticized the hospital for creating an environment that exposed her mother to danger. “I’m angry that they allowed this to happen,” she stated. With her mother’s birthday approaching, she reflected on the tragic loss and the unyielding pain caused by the assault.
The incident closely followed another violent attack at a nursing home in Coney Island, where a 95-year-old dementia patient severely injured her roommate. Authorities continue to investigate the specifics of the Bronx assault, and no charges have been publicly announced as of now.
