Bouncer Surrenders After Viral Video Shows Brutal Chokehold Assault at Baltimore Restaurant
Baltimore Bouncer Turned Himself in After Chokehold Incident
A security guard involved in a violent altercation outside a Baltimore restaurant has surrendered to police. Kevin Weaver, 41, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree aggravated assault after turning himself in on Wednesday.
The incident gained widespread attention when surveillance footage went viral, showing Weaver grabbing a man during a conversation near Cross Street Public House last Saturday. In the video, Weaver is seen applying a tight chokehold on the individual, identified as a Loyola University student, while they struggle on the sidewalk. Despite the victim’s efforts to kick and free himself, Weaver drags him off the street in the hold.
Onlookers appeared shocked and helpless as the assault unfolded. Some were heard shouting, “Tap tap tap, let him go,” trying to intervene. The chokehold was eventually broken up by a security personnel dressed in uniform, who assisted in restraining Weaver and the victim.
The footage, which has amassed over 9.6 million views, captures a tense scene with bystanders watching in distress. The victim’s identity has not been released, but reports suggest he is a student at Loyola University Maryland.
The motivation for the confrontation remains unclear. The incident has sparked calls for accountability, with local officials urging action. Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer, a Baltimore City councilman, shared the video on social media, demanding that both Weaver and a security guard present be held responsible.
In response, a spokesperson for Cross Street Public House clarified that Weaver was not employed directly by the establishment and that the security was provided by Ace Event Services Group for that night. The restaurant and the security firm have now cut ties with Weaver, though whether he was employed by the security company remains uncertain.
