Saliba Reveals Why He Chose Arsenal Over Real Madrid After Signing Five-Year Deal

William Saliba Explains Why He Chose to Remain at Arsenal Over Real Madrid

William Saliba recently shared his reasons for staying at Arsenal despite interest from Real Madrid. The 24-year-old defender signed a new five-year contract with the Gunners, choosing loyalty over following Trent Alexander-Arnold, who moved to Real Madrid this summer.

Saliba revealed that he had not yet won a major trophy with Arsenal, unlike Alexander-Arnold, who secured two Premier League titles and a Champions League victory with Liverpool. “I love this club and want to give back; I haven’t won anything yet,” he said. “My first priority is to stay here and win trophies.”

He emphasized his commitment to Arsenal by stating, “I haven’t done enough here to consider leaving. I want to stay and achieve success with this team.”

Saliba’s previous deal was due to expire in June 2027, but negotiations began this past May, resulting in the new contract. Recognized as one of the top centre backs globally and a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad, his extension is considered a significant victory for the club.

When asked about the possibility of joining Real Madrid, Saliba explained his focus was on winning at Arsenal. “I’ve achieved only a Community Shield so far. I haven’t won much. My goal is to stay and win everything here,” he said.

Saliba’s loyalty comes despite speculation, and he remains determined to secure silverware at the Emirates before considering any future moves. His decision reflects his deep connection to Arsenal and his desire for further success with the club.
