Texas Plumber Finds Decomposed Skull Believed to Be a Cantaloupe While Mowing Yard
Human Skull Discovered During Lawn Work in Texas
A routine landscaping job in San Antonio led a plumber to a shocking find—a decomposed human skull buried in a yard. Walter Stephens, of Harrell Commercial Plumbing, initially thought the skull resembled a dried cantaloupe. When he picked it up, he noticed the jawbone was still attached.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Stephens alerted his employer, who called authorities. Upon arrival, police discovered additional remains—including bones and small body parts—scattered near Martinez Creek behind the business.
Subsequent investigations identified the skull as belonging to 30-year-old Austin Tomas Wyrosdick, a man reported missing prior to the discovery. The medical examiner’s office confirmed the remains as his. The cause and manner of death remain unknown, and investigators have not revealed how long Wyrosdick had been missing.
Stephens shared that he and his boss often walk the property and believe the remains may have been recently moved there by animals or humans. He described the experience as surreal but expressed some relief in having found the remains.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as they seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the discovery and the victim’s disappearance.
