Suspected Gunman Arrested After Deadly Shooting at North Carolina Restaurant

A man suspected of opening fire at a busy dockside restaurant in North Carolina, resulting in three deaths and eight injuries, was taken into custody Saturday night. The weapon used was a short-barrel AR rifle fitted with a suppressor, scope, and folding stock.

The suspect, Nigel Edge, 39, who reportedly changed his name from Sean DeBevoise in 2023, arrived at the American Fish Company restaurant in Southport Yacht Basin and began firing into the crowd. Authorities said he fled the scene via the Intracoastal Waterway but was later spotted attempting to load a vessel at a marina on Oak Island, where he was apprehended by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Edge faces multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon. The motive remains unclear, though police indicate investigations are ongoing.

Records reveal Edge has a history of bizarre lawsuits, including one filed earlier this year accusing a local church of conspiring to kill him and claiming to be a victim of international conspiracy and friendly fire during his military service. Both lawsuits were dismissed.

Following the incident, police said Edge quickly left the scene and was later arrested by federal authorities. He is currently held at the Brunswick County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled for an initial court appearance.
