Grealish’s Honest Admission on Partying After Pep’s Exile: ‘I wasn’t helping myself’
Jack Grealish Opens Up About His Party Lifestyle and Past Challenges
Jack Grealish has candidly reflected on his previous off-the-field behavior during his time at Manchester City, acknowledging that his partying habits did not benefit his career. After transferring to City in 2021 from Aston Villa in a £100 million deal, Grealish spent four seasons under manager Pep Guardiola. Despite winning numerous titles—including the Premier League, Champions League, and the Carabao Cup—he struggled to justify his hefty transfer fee, scoring only 17 goals in 157 appearances.
Since moving on loan to Everton this summer, Grealish has appeared revitalized. In his first seven matches, he has contributed four assists and exudes confidence, eager to prove critics wrong. He attributes much of his early success to Everton’s manager, David Moyes, who has granted him the freedom to play on the left wing, which allows him to operate at his best when he feels appreciated.
Grealish admitted to living “a bit too openly” in the past, saying, “People say I enjoy going out and partying, and I do. I want to live my life and have fun, but there’s a right and wrong time for everything.” He openly acknowledged that he sometimes made poor choices during his Manchester City years, stating, “I didn’t always help myself, but not everything was due to that.”
His move to Everton has rekindled his passion and love for the game, leading to a more positive and confident approach on the pitch. He shared that feeling valued and loved by his manager makes a significant difference, adding, “I like it when managers tell me to just go and do what I want when I get the ball.”
Grealish’s next appearance is scheduled for Monday evening, when Everton hosts West Ham United, now under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The fixture comes after West Ham’s manager, Graham Potter, was dismissed earlier this week following a poor season start. Everton currently sit 12th in the league standings, having won two of their first five fixtures.
