Ex-NYC Financier Howard Rubin’s Sick Messages with Assistant Celebrating Women’s Harm
Accused Sex Trafficker Howard Rubin and Assistant Jennifer Powers Explicit Messages Revealed
Federal prosecutors have disclosed disturbing messages exchanged between Howard Rubin, a 70-year-old accused of running a decade-long sex-trafficking operation, and his former personal assistant Jennifer Powers. The messages included explicit bragging about abuse and inflicting pain on women, including alleged victims.
Court documents detail some of the contents of these messages. In one exchange from 2015, Rubin reportedly described a woman tied to a cross, asking Powers if he shocked her. Powers responded with a vile remark expressing excitement over the alleged act, to which Rubin admitted to electrocuting the woman. He further described how the device was losing power, indicating a disturbing obsession with inflicting pain.
Prosecutors also highlighted messages where Rubin boasted about the women’s willingness to endure mistreatment due to financial desperation. In one case from 2014, Rubin allegedly remarked that a woman, distressed and sleeping on a couch, hated submitting but would do anything because of her dire financial situation. Rubin expressed a desire to make her cry and described her as “soo desperate.”
Further messages from 2016 reveal Rubin’s premeditated plans for a threesome, where he indicated he intended to abuse one of the women for hours and expressed a lack of concern if she screamed, stating, “I don’t care if she screams. This is going to be fun!” His crude language continued with dismissive comments about a woman’s readiness, highlighting a blatant disregard for their well-being.
Prosecutors allege Rubin and Powers participated in brutal acts, including punching gagged women and causing significant harm during their alleged assaults. Rubin is said to have cautioned Powers to be gentle afterward, emphasizing the importance of trust even during violent acts.
The authorities charged Rubin and Powers with multiple counts, accusing them of recruiting women under false pretenses, transporting them to luxury locations, and torturing them at a penthouse and luxury hotels. Rubin was apprehended at his Connecticut residence, while Powers was detained in Texas. The scheme reportedly took place between 2009 and 2019.
Neither defendant has entered a plea, and their attorneys have yet to comment. Rubin’s wife filed for divorce amidst the allegations. The investigation continues into the extent of their crimes.
