Anti-ICE Gunman Joshua Jahn Spent 17,500 Hours Playing Violent Video Games
Man Who Opened Fire at Dallas ICE Facility Had Extensive Online Gaming History
Joshua Jahn, aged 29, who carried out the shooting at the Dallas ICE workplace, was heavily engaged in online gaming for over 17,000 hours, mainly participating in first-person shooter games, according to his Steam profile. Since creating his account in 2011, he spent approximately 729 days gaming, equating to over two years of his life. This amounts to nearly 15% of his entire lifespan, including sleeping hours.
His most-played game was “Team Fortress 2,” where he logged around 3,400 hours. Other notable titles included “Rust,” with nearly 7,000 hours, “Ark: Survival Edition,” “Left 4 Dead 2,” and “Garry’s Mod.” In total, he had 34 games added to his account, with titles like “Grand Theft Auto V,” “Rocket League,” “Counter-Strike,” and “PUBG.”
Jahn’s online aliases included “SAM I Am” and “Frank Hoenikker,” the latter referencing a character from Kurt Vonnegut’s novel “Cat’s Cradle.” He also went by “#Impeachment” during 2019 and 2020, aligning with the first impeachment trial of President Trump. He was active in several gaming groups on Steam, including one with only seven members.
Just hours before the attack, Jahn was last seen playing “Team Fortress 2.” The shooter targeted an ICE bus transporting detainees and agents, opening fire and killing one migrant detainee while critically wounding two others. No law enforcement officers were harmed.
His gaming profile, established in September 2011, indicates he spent nearly 15% of his remaining life inside the virtual world. His online activity was often part of gaming communities that mocked or commented on his skills, with one group chat joking about his shooting ability after his identity was revealed.
Following the attack, the FBI reported that Jahn took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot after the incident.
