Rio Ferdinand duped by fake screenshot from his own match in Rooney vs. Kane debate
Rio Ferdinand Mistakenly Shares Fake Screenshot from a Past Match
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand shared a doctored screenshot of a match he participated in, attempting to make a point during a debate about Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane. The image, which Ferdinand posted on social media, depicted Rooney scoring a hat-trick in a 4-0 Champions League victory against AC Milan in 2010, and also showed David Beckham and Ronaldinho looking disappointed in the background. However, the screenshot was altered and not an authentic representation of the game.
The actual match in 2010 saw Rooney score twice, with goals from Park Ji-Sung and Darren Fletcher, resulting in a 4-0 win. Ferdinand, who played in that game alongside Rooney and scored in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16, failed to notice the inaccuracies in the posted image. Despite evidence and a correct photo of himself with Rooney from that night, Ferdinand has kept the fake post live on his social profile.
Rooney recently discussed the striker debate on a podcast, praising Harry Kane’s goal-scoring ability and tactical intelligence. Rooney remarked on Kane’s movement and finish, comparing his playing style to legendary Francesco Totti, noting how Kane drops into midfield and makes runs into the box.
Ferdinand also inquired whether Rooney believes Kane has surpassed him as a player. Rooney responded that he believes his own goalscoring record is superior, citing Kane’s inconsistency but acknowledging his overall importance. Rooney concluded that Kane is a great player but emphasized his own abilities and goalscoring prowess, calling himself a more aggressive player in his prime.
As of now, Ferdinand has not removed the misleading post, remaining unaware of the error.
In reality, Ronaldinho and Beckham played in black kits that night, not the red and black stripes shown in the altered image.
