Harry Kane Responds to Michael Owen Over Premier League Exit and Bayern School Swap Comments
Harry Kane Responds to Michael Owen Over Transfer Comments
Harry Kane has addressed criticism from former England striker Michael Owen regarding his decision to leave the Premier League for Germany. Owen described Kane as ‘nuts’ for moving to Bayern Munich while nearing the milestone of becoming the league’s top scorer.
In summer 2023, Kane departed Tottenham after 19 years, seeking his first major trophy by signing with Bayern. At the time, Owen was among those who questioned Kane’s choice, citing that he was close to breaking Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record and highlighting his strong ties to England and Tottenham.
Kane, 32, recently won the Bundesliga title with Bayern in May and responded during a podcast appearance. He emphasized that everyone’s career decisions are personal and should be respected, noting that his move allowed him to compete at the highest level and participate in significant competitions like the Champions League and Club World Cup.
“I chose what was best for me,” Kane stated. “I’m focused on improving and pushing my goals further. I’m very happy with my decision, and I feel great at Bayern.”
He also clarified Owen’s implications about his motivations, asserting that his aim was to play at the top level and achieve personal growth, not just chasing trophies. Kane expressed contentment with how things have unfolded at Bayern and highlighted his ongoing ambition to excel.
Owen had previously expressed concerns about Kane’s move, suggesting that wanting to win trophies should have involved staying longer in England and possibly waiting to achieve the all-time goal-scoring record before transferring abroad.
Despite differing opinions, Kane maintains respect for Owen’s legacy as a Premier League and England icon, affirming that personal decisions in a footballer’s career are varied and subjective.
