Alexander Isak Breaks Silence on Newcastle Feud & £125m Liverpool Transfer

Alexander Isak Addresses His Disputes with Newcastle and His £125 Million Transfer to Liverpool

Alexander Isak has publicly spoken for the first time since completing his record-breaking move to Liverpool for £125 million. His departure from Newcastle was marked by controversy, as he refused to train or play in an effort to secure the transfer to Anfield. The deal was finalized on deadline day, after which Isak immediately joined international duty for Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers.

In his first appearance since his last game for Newcastle on May 25, Isak came on as a substitute in Sweden’s 2-0 loss to Kosovo. He was only on the field for 18 minutes and struggled to influence the game, which ended in an upset defeat for the Swedes. Despite the disappointing result, Isak addressed the summer transfer saga, emphasizing his happiness about joining Liverpool.

“Not everyone has the full picture, but that’s something for another day,” Isak said. “I can’t control everything that’s said or written. But I’m pleased to be a Liverpool player.”

He further explained, “It’s great that everything was settled before I joined the national team, allowing me to focus on playing football. The situation has been quite new for me, but I see it as a chance to grow mentally.”

Sweden’s coach Jon Dahl Tomasson expressed concerns over Isak’s fitness ahead of their matches, particularly since Isak only entered the game late in the second match. However, Isak refuted claims that Liverpool limited his playing time, stating, “It took 20 minutes, and I felt okay. I don’t believe Liverpool restricted my minutes. Clubs and national teams manage communication, but these decisions are between them.”

Isak trained only three times with the Swedish team during the international break but believes he’s ready for upcoming matches, including Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture against Burnley. He noted, “I’ve only trained a few times, but I’m prepared for what’s ahead.”

His transfer comes at a challenging time for the Swedish national team, which currently sits third in their World Cup qualifying group, trailing leaders Switzerland by five points. Only the top team will qualify automatically for the tournament.
