Mariah Carey Dazzles at VMAs with Firstever Video Vanguard Award

Iconic singer Mariah Carey made a glamorous appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she was honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award, marking her first time receiving this accolade.

Taking the stage in a champagne silk robe, she swiftly revealed a stunning gold crystal-covered bodysuit matched with sparkling boots. Her look was complemented by an array of dazzling jewelry, including a 204.38-carat diamond necklace and matching chandelier earrings from Levuma, valued at around $10 million. Carey also wore several diamond bracelets, notably a 72.15-carat cuff from Etho Maria.

She began her performance in a feather-trimmed robe and revealed her dazzling ensemble.

During her acceptance speech, she humorously questioned, “What in the Sam Hill were you waiting for?” as she received the award from Ariana Grande. At 56, Carey is the oldest recipient of the Video Vanguard Award to date, despite her playful denial of aging, which she refers to as an “anniversary.”

She joins a distinguished roster of past winners including Katy Perry, Shakira, Beyoncé, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna. Curiously, Carey previously presented the same award to LL Cool J in 1997, who is hosting the show this year, broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.

Adding to her spectacular night, Carey received a 204.38-carat “Rosée Éternelle” diamond necklace and matching chandelier earrings from Levuma, along with several diamond bracelets, including a 72.15-carat cuff. The jewelry alone is estimated to be worth around $10 million.

Ariana Grande presented her with the esteemed Video Vanguard Award.

Shockingly, this is Carey’s very first Moon Person, despite her being nominated for eight previous times over her career. She is among the elite artists who have never won one of these awards, even after decades in the industry. Currently, she is nominated for her ninth award—best R&B video for her song “Type Dangerous.”

With her hands full of awards and honors, it looks like Mariah Carey’s VMA night will be unforgettable.
