GOP Senator Warns Radioactive Shrimp Could Cause Extra Ears!
Senator Compares Radioactive Shrimp to Science Fiction Creatures
Last week, a U.S. senator made a bizarre claim on the Senate floor, warning of dangers from radioactive shrimp. He suggested that consuming such shrimp could cause people to grow new limbs or turn into aliens, similar to creatures from science fiction films.
Senator John Kennedy, representing Louisiana, appeared beside a large image of a monstrous alien-like organism from the movie “Alien” to emphasize his point. He referenced recent recalls of imported shrimp contaminated with cesium-137, a radioactive isotope linked to increased cancer risk, as reported by health authorities.
He humorously warned that eating radioactive shrimp could be deadly or result in bizarre physical changes. Kennedy expressed concern that some imported shrimp are raised in countries with lax regulations, allegedly injected with antibiotics and other substances, which he claims could lead to resistance to bacteria in humans.
He admitted his bias towards supporting local Louisiana shrimp, emphasizing pride in the quality of Gulf Coast products. “I believe in homegrown Louisiana shrimp, fresh out of the Gulf, not radioactive,” Kennedy stated. He added that cheaper foreign options may be preferred because they are less regulated and potentially contaminated with radioactive material.
Kennedy shared the presentation on his social media, where it gained significant attention. Some critics saw the move as fearmongering, while others agreed that domestic shrimp should be prioritized for safety reasons. The senator’s comments are part of his broader pattern of expressing unconventional opinions on current issues.
