Capitol Hill Intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym Murder Suspects Revealed; Manhunt Ongoing
Suspects Charged in the Shooting of Intern Near the White House
Police have released mugshots of two 17-year-olds accused of fatally shooting a 21-year-old intern in Washington, DC, in June. The victim, Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an intern for Congressman Ron Estes, was shot on June 30, about a mile from the White House.
The suspects, Kelvin Thomas Jr. from Southeast DC and Jailen Lucas from Northwest DC, were arrested last Friday and charged as adults with first-degree murder while armed. Authorities are also seeking Naqwan Antonio Lucas, 18, of Granby, Massachusetts, who is wanted on a warrant for premeditated murder in connection with the case.
During the incident, a woman and a 16-year-old boy were injured, authorities reported.
In July, a moment of silence was held on the House floor to honor Tarpinian-Jachym, with Rep. Estes remembering him as a kind and patriotic individual. Officials have stated that if the suspects are convicted, they will face severe consequences, offering some comfort to the victim’s family.
The reward for information leading to a conviction in this homicide has been increased to a total of $50,000, with the FBI and US Marshals contributing additional funds. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the police at 202-727-9099 or send tips via text to 50411. They advise the public not to approach Naqwan Lucas if seen.
