Candace Cameron Bure Removes Swimsuit Photo After Body-Shaming Criticism
The actress and former child star Candace Cameron Bure recently deleted a photo of herself in a one-piece swimsuit after facing negative comments online about her body. When a fan inquired about the removal, she confirmed on her Instagram Stories that she took the photo down because of the body-shaming remarks it provoked.
In the deleted image, Bure was enjoying the final days of summer in the swimsuit, which she clarified was not a bikini. She emphasized that her decision to remove the photo was not about the swimsuit itself but because the comments had become overwhelmingly focused on her appearance.
Bure reflected on the experience, stating, “It wasn’t worth it. I took it down.” She shared a recent photo of herself in a yellow sundress to her social media, choosing to focus on enjoying her day rather than the online backlash.
The actress has previously spoken openly about her struggles with body image and her history with eating disorders. In her memoir, Reshaping It All, she admitted to bingeing and purging to control her weight and described her unhealthy relationship with food, which included bulimia.
She recounted that she began dieting at age 12, trying various plans like Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, and Jenny Craig. In a 2016 interview, she described how her body image issues stemmed from feelings of inadequacy, especially during her childhood acting career.
In her personal reflections, Bure compared her treatment of her body to a biblical story, describing how she has been harsh and unforgiving toward herself. She shared that she has often spoken to herself unkindly, questioning why she doesn’t look a certain way, which she now recognizes as part of her journey toward self-acceptance.
