Kelly Clarkson Breaks Social Media Silence Following Ex-Husband’s Passing
Nearly a month after the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson has resumed posting on social media. She marked the 23rd anniversary of her victory on American Idol with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, sharing a nostalgic photo from the show’s first season finale.
In her caption, Clarkson expressed gratitude to the voters who supported her two decades ago and reflected on how winning the competition transformed her life. She wrote, “Winning ‘American Idol’ changed everything for me, and I am forever grateful to those who supported me along the way. Finding your purpose and passion is a gift, and making a living doing what you love is the cherry on top. Thank you, always.”
This message arrives shortly after Clarkson was seen publicly at LAX following her ex-husband’s passing last month. Blackstock, with whom she shares two children—River, 11, and Remington, 9—died on August 7 after a private battle with cancer, at age 48.
The singer had previously announced she would cancel her remaining Las Vegas shows in August to support her family during Blackstock’s illness. She expressed remorse to her fans for the inconvenience, thanking them for understanding.
During the months leading up to his death, Clarkson helped care for Blackstock, who faced a long battle with melanoma. She also stepped away from her talk show in March to tend to him, showing her dedication and love despite their divorce, which was finalized in 2022 after years of legal disputes.
Blackstock moved on with her former assistant, Brittney Marie Jones, who was listed as his partner in his obituary. Clarkson is expected to return to her daytime talk show later this month, with the new season set to premiere on September 29 and production beginning September 8. Her Vegas residency is scheduled to resume in November.
