Divers Discover Nearly 100 Submerged Cars in Chicago River in Cold Case Investigation
Extensive Car Search Uncovers Nearly 100 Vehicles in the Chicago River
Rescue teams recently discovered almost 100 submerged cars in the Chicago River during a search for a missing couple from a decades-old cold case. The team, known as the Chaos Divers, conducted the operation using sonar technology and diving equipment.
The case concerns Edward and Stephania Andrews, who vanished on May 15, 1970, while driving home from a social event in downtown Chicago. Despite investigations stretching back over 50 years, little information about their disappearance has emerged.
During the recent dive, the team located 97 vehicles beneath the water, many clustered together in groups of 12 to 19 cars. Most were in dense piles, but some appeared isolated, which could suggest potential clues related to accidents or foul play. However, the Andrews’ yellow 1969 Oldsmobile 442 was not among the recovered vehicles.
The investigation into the Andrews’ disappearance remains unresolved, and authorities have yet to determine whether any of the cars are linked to crimes or missing persons cases. The dive team plans to return to the Chicago River on Thursday to continue their search, with additional efforts scheduled for the Calumet River on Friday.
Despite the extensive find, city officials have not provided updates regarding the significance of the vehicles recovered, leaving the connection to past cases uncertain.
