Man United Rivals Drop Interest in Senne Lammens Amid Belgian Reports

Manchester United’s New Goalkeeper Senne Lammens Faces Mixed Reactions from Rivals

Manchester United’s recent signing, goalkeeper Senne Lammens, has attracted attention from rival clubs, though none showed strong interest due to concerns about his fit for the Premier League’s demanding environment.

Lammens, 23, transferred from Royal Antwerp for up to £21.7 million, making him the most expensive goalkeeper sale in Belgian Pro League history. United passed on acquiring Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, opting instead for Lammens despite his limited top-flight experience.

Clubs like Sunderland and Leeds United reportedly inquired about Lammens but withdrew their interest after learning his hefty transfer fee, according to Belgian reports. Scouts see potential in his abilities, but there’s caution about rushing him into a starting role in England’s tough league.

United had been preparing for the move for some time, finalizing it as Lammens flew from Antwerp to Manchester. The club’s current goalkeepers, Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, are underperforming this season, with Bayindir recently promoted to No. 1 goalkeeper and Onana struggling to find consistency.

Despite their struggles, the manager has dismissed blame on the goalkeepers, citing the team’s overall defensive issues and the challenging atmosphere at Manchester United.

With Lammens joining, United could have four senior goalkeepers on their squad, including veteran Tom Heaton. The team is set to face Manchester City after the international break, with Gianluigi Donnarumma now in goal for City.

It remains to be seen whether Lammens will become the first-choice keeper immediately, but his transfer marks a significant investment, reflecting United’s confidence in his potential despite external reservations about his readiness for English football.
