2 Adults Hurt, Child Critical in Pennsylvania Labor Day Festival Crash
Woman Crashes Minivan into Festival Crowd, Leaving 3 Injured
A minivan driven by a 37-year-old woman drove through barricades at a Labor Day festival in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, resulting in critical injuries to a 6-year-old boy and injuries to two adults. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. as the festival was winding down, with vendors packing up and families making their last purchases.
The driver swerved around security barriers and barreled down a street, hitting two adults—one a wheelchair-bound woman and the other a city employee—and a young boy, who remains in critical condition. Witnesses described the vehicle as moving rapidly and silently through the crowd, causing widespread chaos and scattering debris, including parts of vendors’ stands.
Authorities report that the male victim was attempting to stop the driver when he was struck. The vehicle then sped for several blocks, colliding with various objects along the way. The woman was arrested at the scene; she was driving a battered minivan with a bumper sticker that read “hella’ kids up in here,” and wearing a T-shirt that said “Mom Son Team.”
The woman’s vehicle struck multiple objects, and debris was scattered across the area. Police noted the scene appeared unnervingly quiet, as the vehicle approached unnoticed by bystanders. One festival vendor recounted how the car was moving quickly without warning.
First responders responded swiftly, examining the damaged vehicle and the scene of the crash. The incident remains under investigation to determine the motive behind the reckless drive.
The Harrisburg Kipona Festival has been celebrated annually since 1916, originally a water carnival, now a large event with merchants, performances, rides, and parades. Similar incidents have occurred recently elsewhere, including a car ramming into a Pittsburgh festival and another driving into a crowd in Philadelphia, though those resulted in less severe injuries.
