Fulham Boss Marco Silva Confronts Ref Over Josh King’s Disallowed Goal at Chelsea

Fulham Boss Marco Silva Confronts Referee After Key Decision Denies Goal at Chelsea

During the match at Stamford Bridge, Fulham’s manager Marco Silva expressed his frustration at a controversial refereeing decision that denied his team an early goal against Chelsea. Silva was visibly upset as he waited for the referee, Robert Jones, at halftime, near the center circle.

The incident in question occurred in the 22nd minute when young forward Josh King believed he had scored to put Fulham ahead. Showing calm composure, King sliced inside and finished neatly, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review. The officials ruled that Rodrigo Muniz had committed a “careless challenge” on Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah during the build-up.

This decision sparked anger among Fulham players and supporters, with pundits also criticising the call. Former Chelsea star Joe Cole argued that Chalobah’s challenge was not a foul, noting that contact was minimal and not deserving of a free-kick.

The frustration continued as Chelsea scored just before halftime through Joao Pedro, after an eight-minute delay for VAR checks. Fulham’s discontent grew further when Chelsea’s penalty in the second half was awarded following a handball incident involving Ryan Sessegnon, and Enzo Fernandez converted the spot kick. A subsequent re-examination suggested Pedro may have also handled the ball, adding to Fulham’s dissatisfaction.

Silva responded to the penalty decision with a dismissive laugh, highlighting his displeasure with the refereeing. Meanwhile, Chelsea supporters chanted sarcastically about the decisions, reflecting the contentious nature of the match.
