Rep. Lawler Supports Trump Sending National Guard to Fight NYC Crime

Lawmakers Suggest Deployment of Federal and National Guard Troops to Combat Crime

Representative Mike Lawler from New York indicated support for the possible deployment of President Trump sending National Guard troops to address crime issues in New York City. When questioned about the logistics of deploying military support alongside the FBI and local police, Lawler expressed openness to all options, stating, “I’d rather all of the above.”

On a television program, Lawler criticized the state and city leadership for not doing enough to curb rising crime rates. He pointed out that Governor Kathy Hochul has already mobilized National Guard members to patrol the subway system, highlighting efforts underway in the state.

During his appearance, Lawler also noted that the National Guard in the capital has not been involved in making arrests but has collaborated with law enforcement agencies to combat crime. President Trump, meanwhile, has expressed intentions to focus on crime reduction efforts in Chicago following the deployment in Washington, D.C., with plans to assist New York City subsequently.

In a recent speech at the White House, Trump emphasized crime as a primary concern and indicated that enhancing law enforcement presence in several major cities is part of his strategy to restore safety.

As discussions continue, advocates and officials debate the best approach to effectively address crime while considering the implications of deploying military resources within urban environments.
