Wayne Rooney’s Son Kai, 15, Scores for Manchester United’s Under-18s in a 5-0 Victory, While a 14-Year-Old Talent Scores Twice

Kai Rooney, the 15-year-old son of football legend Wayne Rooney, scored his first goal for Manchester United’s Under-18 team during his second appearance. The young forward made an immediate impact in his debut against Everton last week after being promoted three age groups.

In a subsequent game against Middlesbrough, Kai was named on the bench and was introduced in the second half by Darren Fletcher, a former United teammate now working with the club’s youth academy. He scored a goal with a deflected half-volley in the 76th minute, helping United secure a dominant 5-0 win.

Earlier in the match, 14-year-old JJ Gabriel netted twice, showcasing the club’s promising youth talent. Gabriel had recently committed his future to Manchester United after strong support from senior officials at Old Trafford.

Kai, capable of playing both as a striker and on the wing, previously impressed at the Super Cup NI in Northern Ireland. Having joined Manchester United’s academy in 2020, he has progressed through the youth ranks, with his father Wayne commenting that his son “handles the pressure well” despite his young age.

Wayne Rooney, United’s all-time leading scorer with 253 goals, has expressed pride in Kai’s development and hopes he will eventually make it to the first team. The teenage forward is seen as a promising talent, potentially following in his father’s footsteps at Old Trafford.
