NYC Gunman Shoots 4 Teens, Including 14-Year-Old Girl, in Bronx
Teenagers Shot During Afternoon Brawl in the Bronx
Four teens, including a 14-year-old girl, were wounded when gunfire broke out amid a chaotic street altercation in the Westchester Square neighborhood. The incident happened around 4 p.m. on Overing Street as a dispute among a large group of youths escalated into violence.
A gunman approached the melee and opened fire, hitting a 13-year-old boy in the left leg and a 14-year-old girl in the same spot. Two other teens, a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, were grazed by bullets in their legs. All four victims were transported to Jacobi Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
The shooter fled on foot, leaving the scene as bystanders called emergency services. Authorities have not yet identified or detained the suspect. Detectives are canvassing for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to find the gunman and to determine what led to the outbreak of violence.
While overall crime rates in New York City are declining, the Bronx still experiences higher levels of gun violence compared to other boroughs. Recent statistics indicate a near 15% decrease in murders and over 30% drop in shootings in the borough this year, attributed to targeted policing and community programs. Nonetheless, officials caution that violence remains an ongoing concern in the area.
