Fans Criticize Serena Williams Over Weight-Loss Medication Admission

Serena Williams Reveals Use of Weight-Loss Medication Following Body Transformation

Serena Williams recently disclosed that she lost over 30 pounds with the aid of a prescription medication designed for weight management, sparening mixed reactions among fans and critics alike.

On social media, the athlete shared a video showing her administering the medication herself, explaining that her body “needed” it after giving birth to her second child. The video was part of a promotional campaign in partnership with the drug company Ro, which markets a GLP-1 weight-loss injection.

Fans expressed disappointment in her decision, criticizing her for promoting medication as a necessary step for health and beauty standards. Many argued that it sets a harmful example for young women, especially aspiring athletes, highlighting concerns about the message it sends to youth and women recovering from childbirth.

Fans voiced their disapproval on her use of medication to achieve her body.

Williams, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, clarified that she started experiencing weight struggles in 2017 after the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia. She revealed she researched Ro and decided to begin the weekly injections six months after welcoming her second daughter, Adira, in August 2023.

She shared her feelings of well-being, stating, “I feel great, really healthy, light physically and mentally.” She added that despite her rigorous training and healthy eating, she struggled to reach her desired weight prior to this choice.

While Page Six reached out for comments, Williams’ representatives did not immediately respond. Her openness about using weight-loss drugs has sparked a debate on messaging and health perceptions, especially among younger audiences.
