Ciara Renée Sues After Being Cut from Broadway’s ‘G:u:n & Powder’
Actress Claims She Was Wrongfully Dismissed from Upcoming Broadway Show
A seasoned Broadway and TV actress alleges she was unjustly removed from a highly anticipated musical before its opening on Broadway and is seeking compensation for the earnings she would have received.
Ciara Renée, known for her roles as Hawkgirl in the series “Arrow” and “The Flash,” and her performances on Broadway in shows like “Waitress,” “Frozen,” “Pippin,” and “Big Fish,” believed she was set to join the cast of the new musical “Wanted.” She previously starred in the show’s regional production at the Paper Mill Playhouse, where she received acclaim for her portrayal of Mary Clarke, a gun-toting outlaw twin in 1893 Texas. Critics praised her performance, and she even recorded songs from the show at the producers’ request.
Despite her involvement, Renée claims that about a week later, producers Alecia Parker and Samuel Lopez instructed her removal, falsely accusing her of failing to collaborate and being uncooperative during the earlier run. She asserts these reasons are unfounded and that she stands to earn approximately $486,000 for a planned nine-month Broadway run scheduled for 2026.
Renée states she was introduced as a future cast member at events, including an investor event in Martha’s Vineyard and a stage reading, where she was misrepresented as part of the upcoming production. She also participated in promotional activities, asserting her professionalism and willingness to cooperate.
An attorney representing the production team dismissed her allegations, asserting a vigorous defense against the accusations. The legal dispute continues as Renée seeks justice and compensation for what she claims is an unjustified dismissal.
Renée maintains her innocence and believes her reputation and future earnings have been unfairly affected by the producers’ claims.
