Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo Demands Jail for Racist Abusers After Anfield Abuse

Semenyo Advocates for Tougher Penalties Against Racist Abuse in Football

Bournemouth midfielder Antoine Semenyo has publicly called for stricter punishments for fans involved in racist abuse, following an incident at Anfield last week.

The 25-year-old was subjected to hateful comments from a fan while taking a throw-in during the opening match of the Premier League season against Liverpool. The fan, who was in a wheelchair and identified as 47-year-old Mark Mogan, was escorted out of the stadium by police and later arrested.

Semenyo, who scored two goals in that match, shared his feelings about the distressing incident. He explained that reporting the abuse to the referee was the right decision, as staying silent would have haunted him. The experience left him angry but motivated, fueling his performance during the game.

“It’s mind-boggling how this still happens today. The punishment isn’t enough when such incidents occur. There must be severe consequences, like banning fans for life or even legal action,” Semenyo stated.

He emphasized that harsh penalties could include jail time or lifelong bans from stadiums. The player urged others to report racist abuse whenever it occurs, ensuring that the perpetrators face maximum consequences.

Since the incident, Semenyo has received widespread support from teammates and fans. However, he also discovered racist messages on social media afterward, prompting him to publicly question when such behavior will stop.

The club condemned the racist conduct, affirming their stance against discrimination. Merseyside Police confirmed that the suspect had been bailed with conditions that prohibit attendance at football matches or visits near stadiums while investigations continue.

“We condemn racism in all its forms. It has no place in society or football,” the police declared.
