Suspect to Undergo Mental Evaluation in Connection with Hollywood Shooting

A man accused of fatally shooting a music supervisor associated with “American Idol” and her husband in their Los Angeles home is scheduled for a mental health assessment to determine his fitness to stand trial. The court has halted legal proceedings pending the evaluation.

Raymond Boodarian, 22, did not enter a plea during his scheduled arraignment, and a judge ordered a psychiatric examination to assess his mental competency.

He faces two counts of murder after the deadly shootings of Robin Kaye, a longtime producer for “American Idol,” and her 70-year-old husband Thomas Deluca. The victims were shot when they returned unexpectedly during a burglary on July 10.

The court handling the case specializes in mental health evaluations. The judge will decide whether Boodarian will be tried or committed to a mental health hospital based on the exam results.

During the hearing, Boodarian remained behind a glass window in a custody area, attempting to remain out of sight. His attorney has declined to comment, and authorities have not issued any statements at this time.

The same court previously found another defendant, charged with stalking Jennifer Aniston, not competent for trial after an evaluation.

Police responded to a 911 call regarding a burglary at the victims’ residence but found no signs of forced entry or disturbance and subsequently left. The couple’s bodies were discovered days later during a welfare check.

Investigators believe the couple returned unexpectedly and encountered Boodarian during the burglary. He shot them with their own firearm before calling 911 himself. Kaye was actively working on the upcoming season of “American Idol” at the time of her death. She also contributed to numerous other productions in the music industry.
