Derrick Rose’s Jersey Retirement Ceremony Set for January 2025

Legendary Chicago native Derrick Rose, born and raised in the city, is set to have his No. 1 jersey retired by the Chicago Bulls on January 24, 2025. The ceremony will coincide with a highly anticipated regular-season game against the Boston Celtics.

The announcement has sparked significant excitement, with ticket prices for the event reaching an all-time high of $332 on the online marketplace, making it the most expensive Bulls home game ever recorded.

In a heartfelt statement on social media, Rose reflected on his journey, saying, “From Englewood to the rafters, my story has always been about making the city proud.” His partnership with the Bulls dates back to his youth, and his impactful career with the team is being honored with this special tribute.

The jersey retirement will occur more than a year after Rose’s official retirement, which was celebrated during a game at the United Center. On that day, the Bulls announced his jersey would join esteemed numbers from players like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. The event featured emotional speeches, including a tearful tribute from former teammate Joakim Noah.

During the ceremony, Rose also shared a powerful speech emphasizing perseverance and the pursuit of greatness: “Being great means you’re going to be disliked at times. You have to show courage and confidence in your decisions.” He expressed gratitude to Chicago for shaping his career, acknowledging the challenges and injuries he faced along the way but emphasizing his dedication to greatness throughout his 15 NBA seasons.

Rose’s tenure with the Bulls was marked by notable accomplishments, including six playoff appearances and a trip to the Eastern Conference finals in 2011, when the team achieved a 62-win record and he earned the league MVP award.
