Nottingham Forest Near Loan Deal for Ex-Premier League Star with £26M Buy Option

Nottingham Forest Agrees on Loan Move for Ex-Premier League Star with Option to Buy

Nottingham Forest has reached an agreement to sign midfielder Douglas Luiz on a season-long loan, with a conditional obligation to purchase the player outright next summer. Luiz, 27, recently transferred from Juventus to Aston Villa for £42.3 million in 2024 but will now rejoin the Premier League on loan after Forest’s deal with Juventus was finalized.

The Brazilian international’s arrival marks the fourth new signing in just days for Forest, which has already secured Omari Hutchinson, James McAtee, and Arnaud Kalimuendo — resulting in summer spending surpassing £140 million.

The club has also added Brazilian players Jair Cunha and Igor Jesus from Botafogo, and goalkeeper Angus Gunn, a free agent from Southampton. Additionally, Bologna’s Dan Ndoye has joined the squad.

According to reports, the transfer deal includes an obligation for Forest to buy Luiz based on his appearances during the season, with a possible option to purchase for up to £26 million if certain milestones are not met. The specifics of the obligation and option values have not been disclosed.

However, not all news from the summer transfer window has been positive. The team’s manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, has expressed concern about the team’s readiness for the upcoming campaign, citing insufficient recruitment. Despite this, Forest has made significant investments, including recent signings that debuted with a 3-0 victory over Brentford in their first Premier League game of the season. In that match, Chris Wood scored twice, and new signing Ndoye netted his first goal in his debut.

Luiz’s signing is part of a broader effort to strengthen the squad amid a hectic transfer window and expectations for the season ahead.
