Wrexham Nears £8M Man City Defender After Breaking Transfer Record for Former Premier League Striker
Wrexham Nears £8 Million Signing of Manchester City Defender
Wrexham FC is making significant moves in the transfer market, just days after breaking their club record by signing a former Premier League striker. The club, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has strengthened its squad with multiple new signings following their historic achievement of earning three consecutive promotions last season.
The Welsh team is close to acquiring Callum Doyle, a Manchester City defender, for approximately £8 million. This transfer would boost Wrexham’s summer spending to around £18 million, having already signed players like Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town for £7.5 million plus add-ons, as well as Lewis O’Brien, Kieffer Moore, and Conor Coady.
Doyle, aged 21, has played over 100 Championship matches during loan spells with Sunderland, Coventry, Leicester, and Norwich. Although Sheffield United and Rangers were interested, Wrexham has taken the lead in securing his signature.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji has caught the attention of Turkish club Galatasaray, who are reportedly in negotiations to sign the Swiss international. With only two years remaining on his contract, City might consider selling instead of losing him on a free transfer later this year. Additionally, Galatasaray has also been linked with a potential move for goalkeeper Ederson.
Wrexham recently suffered defeats in their first Championship matches against Southampton and West Brom but continues to bolster its squad with strategic signings. The club’s ambitious transfer activity underscores their determination to establish themselves in the division after their unprecedented promotions.
Wrexham is nearing an £8 million deal for Manchester City’s Callum Doyle.
The owners have added several new stars to the team’s roster this summer.
Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji is a key transfer target for Galatasaray, who may look to sell him due to his contractual situation.
