Sarah Jessica Parker Responds to ‘And Just Like That’ Finale Critics
Sarah Jessica Parker Remains Unbothered by Negative Reactions to “And Just Like That”
Despite a widely panned season finale that featured a controversial storyline of Carrie Bradshaw ending the series as a single woman, Sarah Jessica Parker dismisses the criticism, emphasizing her focus on storytelling and audience connection. In an interview, she stated, “I don’t think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that. We always worked incredibly hard to tell stories that were interesting or real. I guess I don’t really care.”
Parker, 60, highlighted that the show’s success and meaningful audience ties outweigh the negative reviews, adding, “And the reason I don’t care is because it has been so enormously successful, and the connections it has made with audiences have been very meaningful.”
The reboot of “Sex and the City,” launched in 2023 with the original cast minus Kim Cattrall, was initially the network’s most-watched debut but quickly experienced a decline in viewers. Critics cited outdated themes and superficial attempts at cultural relevance as reasons for the waning interest.
Following the series finale titled “Party of One,” viewers criticized the storylines, especially Bradshaw’s exit as a single woman. The episode was heavily scrutinized, with some calling it a failure in storytelling.
Notable figures also voiced harsh opinions. Bethenny Frankel, former star of “The Real Housewives,” labeled the series the “worst show ever” in a fiery Instagram post, calling it “25 pounds of disaster in a 5-pound bag — and yep, it explodes,” referencing a plot element where an episode featured a clogged toilet. She further criticized the show’s caricature-like characters and woke storylines, urging, “Put it in the back and shoot it. Put it to rest.”
Overall, Parker remains indifferent to the hate-watch culture, prioritizing the show’s meaningful engagement with fans over negative reviews, and emphasizing the importance of storytelling over controversy.
