Jasmine Crockett Slams Republicans as ‘Racist’ After Al Sharpton Praises ‘Jasmine Campbell’
Representative Jasmine Crockett Labels Republicans as “Racist” at Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival
During an appearance at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) sharply criticized the Republican Party, calling them “racist.” The event also featured Rev. Al Sharpton, who mistakenly referred to Crockett as “Jasmine Campbell” and compared her to historic Black female leaders such as Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan, Maxine Waters, and Ayanna Pressley.
Sharpton’s gaffe occurred during a fireside chat, where he reminisced about the 1972 presidential campaign of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress. Despite the slip, Crockett chose not to react publicly, and Sharpton continued his remarks.
Crockett, known for her outspoken stance against President Trump, later expressed concern that the former leader aims to diminish democratic institutions and establish authoritarian control in the U.S. She encouraged the arts-focused audience to “find their role in this fight,” comparing opposition to Trump with civil rights activism.
Addressing the crowd, she emphasized the unity and shared values within the Black community, remarking, “When they come for one of us, they are coming for all of us.” Crockett asserted that while many Black individuals hold conservative values, they oppose extremist ideologies, such as neo-Nazism, and reject aligning with racist groups.
In reply to criticisms, Crockett criticized Trump’s rhetoric, suggesting that the former president is attempting to portray himself as an inevitable dictator. She urged people to recognize the importance of resisting such political threats to uphold democracy.
