Cameron Aims to Prove Himself Under New Rangers Manager

Rangers Midfielder Cameron Seeks to Impress New Manager with Extra Motivation

Lyall Cameron, a midfielder for Rangers, says his strong motivation to prove himself to new manager Russell Martin is fueling his positive start to the season. Cameron joined the club on a pre-contract from Dundee during the summer, before Martin’s appointment.

He has now featured in every recent game and netted his first goal for Rangers against Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic. His goal, scored shortly after halftime, helped secure a spot in the Champions League play-off round despite a 2-1 defeat that night. The upcoming fixture will see Rangers face Club Brugge.

Cameron displayed his goal-scoring instinct during his time at Dundee and believes his attitude and determination can help him succeed at Ibrox. “I didn’t expect to be in the team so quickly after arriving,” he said. “The manager didn’t sign me initially, and I wasn’t his player, so I wanted to show my worth.”

Cameron explained that he had to demonstrate his ambitions to the new boss, who has supported him. “It’s been great working with him. I think his style of play will be really exciting once we implement it fully,” he added. “The goal on Tuesday was just a tap-in, but I was in the right place, which is part of my game as a midfielder. It’s a big moment for me, especially coming at a good time.”

Despite the win, the Rangers manager criticized the team’s performance, citing careless play and defensive lapses. Cameron acknowledged the need for improvement ahead of their next challenge against Brugge, whom they drew with pre-season.

“We know our performance wasn’t up to standard, and there’s a lot of work ahead,” Cameron stated. “We’re committed to the style the manager wants, and once we get it right, it will be an attractive style of football. We need to keep pushing and improving.”

He added that Rangers are aware of the quality of their upcoming opponents but are confident they can rise to the challenge. “Brugge is a strong team, but that’s what competing at this level is all about,” Cameron concluded.
