Michail Antonio’s Career Update After Near-Fatal Car Crash

Michail Antonio Shares Future Plans After West Ham Departure

Michail Antonio has spoken about his plans following his recent exit from West Ham as a free agent, nearly a year after surviving a serious car accident that could have significantly altered his life.

The Jamaica international was involved in a crash last December while driving through Epping Forest, losing control of his Ferrari and colliding with a tree. Emergency services had to free him from the wreckage after more than 45 minutes. He was hospitalized with a fractured femur, shattered in four places. Remarkably, Antonio resumed training just four months later.

Despite his quick recovery, West Ham and Antonio couldn’t agree on new contract terms, leading to his departure. The player remains eager to get back into top-flight football and is currently exploring options during the transfer window. He has confirmed conversations with multiple clubs both within England and abroad and remains determined to continue his career.

Antonio expressed his ambition to play in the 2026 World Cup with Jamaica, a goal he has yet to achieve. He emphasized his desire to prove he can come back from adversity and perform at a high level again, citing his consistent performance over the past decade, including key contributions to West Ham’s recent Europa Conference League triumph.

Since his accident, Antonio has taken on punditry roles, including coverage of notable matches. However, he clarified that his focus remains on playing, not media work, and he is determined to return to the pitch.

Having made 323 appearances and scored 83 goals for West Ham, Antonio’s career at the club spanned ten years. If he manages to participate in the World Cup, he could potentially team up with Mason Greenwood, who has obtained a Jamaican passport amid discussions of switching international allegiance from England to Jamaica. Greenwood, formerly of Manchester United and now playing for Marseille, was previously denied selection by Gareth Southgate but remains a talented player with a complex recent history.
