Mats Hummels’ Ex-Wife Slams Son’s Absence from Farewell Match Amid Celebrations with Young Model Girlfriend

Mats Hummels’ Farewell Match: What Was Missing

Recently, Mats Hummels’ ex-wife revealed that their seven-year-old son was not aware of his father’s farewell game for Borussia Dortmund. Despite Hummels’ departure from the club at the end of the 2023-24 season, he was honored with a special match attended by around 80,000 fans at Signal Iduna Park.

The match saw Dortmund face Juventus in a friendly to mark Hummels’ retirement. The veteran defender captained the team for the first 18 minutes, receiving cheers from the crowd. Hummels was accompanied by his girlfriend, Nicola Cavanis, who was present at the event.

However, his young son, Ludwig, was not present at the match. Hummels’ ex-wife, Cathy, shared on social media that she had not been invited to the event and only learned about it from a newspaper. She posted a photo of their son with a newspaper headline about Hummels’ farewell, hinting that he was unaware of the occasion until then.

Cathy clarified that she and Ludwig were on vacation at Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria and that they did not intentionally miss the game. She explained, “We were not invited or informed about the event. We are now enjoying a family vacation.” She also expressed her respect for Hummels’ career, congratulating him publicly.

Hummels, who previously noted his relationship with Cavanis in 2022, has acknowledged his career highlights, including winning five Bundesliga titles, the German Cup, and participating in Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad. After stints with Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and AS Roma, he decided to retire this summer.

Hummels’ departure marks the end of an accomplished career, highlighted by numerous titles and international success. His farewell game, though emotional, was notably missing a key family member.
