The altercation took place in the 87th minute at Stade Velodrome, after Greenwood pushed Onana while getting to his feet, prompting a physical tussle. Footage suggests Onana might have reacted to something touching his face, but it’s unclear whether Greenwood spat at him, as evidence is inconclusive.

Players involved—Greenwood, Mings, and Onana—were all booked by the referee. Marseille’s coach, Roberto De Zerbi, responded quickly by substituting Greenwood following the incident.
