Dr. Phil McGraw, known for his daytime TV show and later as a supporter of former President Trump, claims he’s not deeply involved in politics. In a recent interview, he said, “I don’t think I’m qualified to talk about politics,” implying a detachment from political issues.
This assertion is widely challenged, given McGraw’s active support for Trump’s policies. He has used his platform to promote government actions, including TV coverage of ICE raids aimed at deportation efforts. His reports often echo official government narratives, minimizing the scale of immigration raids and suggesting they target only criminal elements, despite evidence to the contrary.
Additionally, McGraw reportedly facilitated meetings between federal immigration officials and New York City officials, influencing local policies to cooperate more closely with immigration enforcement. His involvement extends further, as he publicly echoed false claims that former President Biden and Vice President Harris benefited from an assassination attempt on Trump, a statement widely criticized as baseless.
Recently, McGraw appeared with Trump during a visit to Texas after devastating floods that caused significant casualties. He was also appointed to a religious liberty commission by Trump. Despite his overt support, McGraw declined to disclose whether he voted for the current president, and efforts to associate him with either political party remain vague.
When confronted about his role in supporting ICE raids, McGraw dismissed accusations of causing family separations, despite evidence that families continued to be separated under the Trump administration. Critics argue that McGraw’s presence and commentary serve as propaganda, promoting government actions under the guise of a television personality.
