Wrexham’s 2-Year Plan to Reach the Premier League: Nine, Stars, and Stadium Upgrades

Wrexham Aiming for Premier League After Historic Promotions

Shortly after securing their third consecutive promotion to the Championship, Wrexham’s owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are already planning their push toward the Premier League. The duo was seen strolling on an empty Racecourse ground with the League One runners-up trophy, joking about targeting a fourth promotion, indicating their ambitious outlook.

With significant backing from the Allyn family, who sold their hospital business for £2 billion, Wrexham is stepping up their transfer activity. Their initial budget of around £20 million has already facilitated the signings of players like Kieffer Moore from Sheffield United for £2 million and Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town in a record £7.5 million deal, with plans to add more talent.

Wrexham’s management has cast a wide net globally, exploring options from Argentina to Scandinavia, including players with Champions League experience. Despite some frustrations over bid complications and transfer negotiations, the club remains aggressive in assembling a competitive squad.

Notably, they made an early bid to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, presenting a bold two-year plan to reach the Premier League, which impressed the Denmark international despite his decision to wait for a top-flight move. The club also quickly secured Conor Coady from Leicester City for £2 million, highlighting their determination.

In addition to new signings, Wrexham is modernizing its stadium with a state-of-the-art £1.7 million hybrid pitch similar to those used at Milan’s San Siro, and they have launched the Dug Out Club hospitality experience, offering fans a chance to sit where players and staff do for £45 a seat.

The club’s infrastructure is also expanding, with a new Kop stand planned for the 2026-27 season, increasing capacity to 18,000—comparable to Premier League stadiums. As Wrexham continues their upward journey, the vision of reaching the top tier is no longer just a dream but an increasingly tangible goal.
