Heroic Act in DC Carjacking Attempt Leads to Assault

A 19-year-old former government worker was severely beaten by a group of minors while attempting to prevent a carjacking in Washington, D.C. According to police, Edward Coristine, who previously worked at the Department of Government Efficiency, intervened when he saw a group of juveniles approach a woman’s vehicle and make threats to steal it.

Coristine quickly pushed his companion into the car for safety and confronted the suspects. During the altercation, he was assaulted by the group, which police estimate consisted of about ten juveniles. Officers responding to the scene at Swann Street noticed the group fleeing, but managed to arrest two youths, both from nearby Hyattsville, Maryland, who were later identified by Coristine as among his attackers.

The victim received medical attention on-site for injuries sustained during the assault. Additionally, his iPhone, valued at $1,000, was stolen in the chaos. Photos of Coristine bloodied and with torn clothing circulated widely after President Trump shared an image of him sitting on the ground in the aftermath.

The incident drew attention on social media, with a former colleague praising Coristine’s bravery. Marko Elez shared that he took a photo of his friend protecting a woman from multiple assailants near Dupont Circle, calling him a hero. Trump condemned the violence, stating that crime in Washington is “totally out of control,” and called for a federal intervention.
