Heroic Walmart Shopper Confronts Knife Attacker During Michigan Stabbing Spree
A dramatic video captures a courageous shopper, armed with a gun, intervening during a violent stabbing incident at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan. The suspect had attacked and wounded 11 people earlier that evening.
The footage shows Derrick Perry, a Marine veteran, shouting commands at the attacker to drop the weapon in the store’s parking lot. Perry’s quick response has garnered widespread praise, with some suggesting he deserves national recognition, including a nomination for the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Family members described Perry as a hero. His daughter expressed pride in his actions on social media, calling it a “proud daughter moment,” while his daughter-in-law labeled him a “true hero.”
In the video, Perry brandishes a small handgun and yells, “Drop it! Throw the knife now. Throw it away!” As he confronts the suspect, several bystanders help to push back and subdue the attacker, who is seen lunging with a knife as chaos unfolds around them. Moments later, victims are seen lying on the ground or being surrounded by other customers demanding he surrender.
Authorities identified the suspect as Bradford James Gille, 42, who faced charges including terrorism and multiple counts of attempted murder. He was known to have a criminal record for drug offenses and vandalism.
The victims ranged from ages 29 to 85, with six over 60. Thankfully, all are expected to survive. Despite some remaining in critical or serious condition initially, conditions improved by Sunday.
