Designed by renowned fashion designer Bob Mackie, the outfit features a sheer black bodysuit adorned with intricate embellishments, making it one of the most recognizable ensembles in pop culture history.
During Julien’s Auctions’ “Bold Luxury: The Limelight Edit” event, the outfit attracted fierce bidding from collectors worldwide. The auction, held at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, showcased over 200 items, including rare pieces once owned by Hollywood legends like Marilyn Monroe and Britney Spears.

One of the standout lots was a burlesque costume designed by Bob Mackie, worn by Britney Spears during her 2001 performances, which sold for $78,000—more than 13 times its original estimate of $6,000. Similarly, Marilyn Monroe’s dress from a 1960 press conference for “The Misfits” also fetched $78,000, highlighting the enduring allure of vintage Hollywood memorabilia.
In an unexpected highlight, a pair of jeans worn by Monroe in the 1954 film River of No Return sold for $52,000. The jeans were part of a private collection owned by fashion entrepreneurs Dee and Tommy Hilfiger, adding to the item’s value and provenance.
