During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Denise Welch, a renowned British soap actress, took a jab at pop superstar Taylor Swift by expressing relief at not being her mother-in-law.

Welch made her comments in response to questions about Swift’s brief relationship with Welch’s son, Matty Healy—frontman of The 1975. She stated, “Not being her mother-in-law is a role I am glad to have lost,” a remark that stunned the audience.

Welch clarified her stance, emphasizing she holds no ill will toward Swift: “I don’t have anything against her, it was just complicated.” She also pointed out that Healy handled Swift’s recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, with grace.

In a candid moment, Welch joked, “She writes a whole album about it,” referencing Swift’s songwriting about their relationship. She also highlighted Healy’s happiness with his fiancée, Gabbriette Bechtel, indicating they have moved on.

Swift and Healy dated briefly from May to June 2023, shortly after her breakup with actor Joe Alwyn. Their relationship was high-profile, with Healy attending multiple of her concerts and being seen together in New York City, including at the Electric Lady studios.
