D.A.R.E. Officer Caught Affair on Bodycam, Stripped of Badge

Law Enforcement Officer and Teacher Involved in School Misconduct

A police officer in Tennessee, responsible for teaching the D.A.R.E. program, has been dismissed after body camera footage revealed inappropriate behavior with a married teacher in her classroom.

Officer Brian Gilley’s bodycam showed him flirting and sharing a passionate kiss with teacher Shelby Moss, even after being interrupted by a student. The footage indicates they continued their interaction on school grounds, acknowledging children might have been nearby.

Text message exchanges between the pair, later obtained by authorities, suggest intentions for holiday plans and affectionate messages. The relationship was reported to authorities in December 2024, leading to investigations.

Shelby Moss resigned from her teaching position in May.

During a decertification hearing in April, Gilley admitted to misconduct and expressed remorse, but was ultimately banned from law enforcement in May. The Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission emphasized that engaging in sexual activity at a school while on duty compromises children’s safety and trust.

Gilley is permanently barred from law enforcement roles in Tennessee.

Moss, who was married at the time, was suspended but resigned shortly afterward. The school district reported the incident to the Tennessee State Board of Education, which is now reviewing whether Moss will retain her teaching license.

The investigation revealed that the sexual interactions occurred off-camera, but messages exchanged between the two confirmed their romantic relationship. Authorities are continuing to evaluate the situation and its implications for school safety.
