Erik Menendez Hospitalized as Lawyer Advocates for Parole Release

Erik Menendez Hospitalized Amid Kidney Stones, Lawyer Urges Parole Furlough

Erik Menendez, convicted of involvement in his parents’ murder, has been hospitalized due to kidney stones, a common urinary health issue. His lawyer is now requesting that he be granted a medical furlough ahead of his upcoming parole hearing.

Attorney Mark Geragos described Menendez’s condition as serious and emphasized that allowing him to leave prison temporarily for medical treatment would be fair. He argued that being furloughed would enable Menendez to better prepare for the parole process and work closely with his legal team.

Erik Menendez has been hospitalized with a serious condition, according to his lawyer.

Menendez is currently undergoing treatment for kidney stones, which is generally manageable but can require medical attention. He and his brother, Lyle Menendez, were initially sentenced to life without parole in 1996 for the murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. However, in May, their sentences were reduced to 50 years to life, and a parole hearing is scheduled for August 21 after a delay.

The brothers, who were teenagers at the time of the crimes, contend that intruders murdered their parents. They later admitted to the killings, claiming it was to end their father’s cycle of sexual abuse. Prosecutors argued during the trial that their claims were false and motivated by financial interests.

Over the years, both Erik and Lyle have expressed remorse for their actions. Their case has garnered renewed attention following a Netflix series on the incident, which has spurred calls for their release from supporters and family members. Their upcoming parole hearing is seen as pivotal in their ongoing legal journey.
