Husband admits to killing wife, hiding body for a month: “Go big or go home”

Man Confesses to Killing Wife and Hiding Body for a Month in Texas

A man from Texas has admitted to murdering his wife and concealing her body in their home for over a month. Authorities reported that Charles Byrd, 49, told investigators he decided to make his first crime “big or go home,” after which he was detained following a police manhunt.

The victim, Angela Byrd, 44, was found wrapped in plastic inside their residence where she had been decomposing for approximately a month. Byrd had been living with her body during this time, according to law enforcement officials.

During interrogation, Byrd revealed that he had never been previously arrested or committed a crime until the incident. He reportedly made a startling statement to investigators: “You know, go big or go home.” His words shocked authorities, and he later expressed remorse, stating, “I’m so sorry. I loved my wife,” attributing his actions to a mental health crisis.

Byrd was captured at a vacant house about a mile from the crime scene after a search. He cooperated with police, providing details about the assault on June 16. He also indicated that he knew the body would eventually be discovered.

He has been charged with evidence tampering with the intent to impair a human corpse. Murder charges are still pending, as the cause of Angela Byrd’s death has not yet been determined. Byrd remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail pending a mental health evaluation.
