Virginia Man Brad Spafford Pleads Guilty After Seizing 150 Pipe Bombs

Virginia Man Pleads Guilty to Stockpiling Homemade Explosives

A man from Virginia has admitted guilt in federal court for possessing unregistered destructive devices and a short-barreled rifle. Authorities previously seized approximately 150 homemade explosive devices, including pipe bombs, from his residence near Norfolk.

The investigation began in 2023 after a law enforcement informant noticed the individual was accumulating ammunition and weapons. During the search in December, authorities discovered a highly unstable explosive in a freezer next to food and more explosive material inside a backpack labeled “#NoLivesMatter”.

The suspect, who is married and has two young daughters, reportedly lost three fingers in a homemade explosives accident in 2021. Prosecutors allege that he used a former president’s photo for target practice and made violent comments supporting political violence, including a remark hoping an assailant would not miss Kamala Harris, shortly after an attempt on President Donald Trump.

The man had initially pleaded not guilty, with his defense citing his steady employment and clean arrest record as reasons for potential release. However, since his December arrest, he has been held in custody due to concerns about his potential danger.

He faces sentences of up to 10 years for each charge and is set to be sentenced in December.
