Nassau County Exec Bruce Blakeman Raises $2M, Signal for Democratic Challenger

Bruce Blakeman Outraises Rival by Significant Margin Amid Campaign Efforts

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has substantially increased his campaign funds over the past year, amassing nearly $2 million from various sources between January and July 2025. This amount exceeds his opponent, Democrat Seth Koslow, who raised approximately $434,000 in the same period.

Blakeman concluded the fundraising half-year with a total of $3.3 million on hand, while Koslow had under $390,000. Blakeman’s campaign was bolstered by around 700 individual donations, with several exceeding $10,000, including $50,000 each from insurance executive James Metzger and relatives of Bolla Oil’s CEO. Major contributions also came from Republican donors in the nursing industry and union groups supporting law enforcement.

He publicly expressed pride in securing broad support from taxpayers, law enforcement, unions, and local businesses, emphasizing his record on tax stability and safety. However, opponents have questioned the integrity of his fundraising practices, pointing to donations from law firms with county contracts, including a $25,000 contribution from attorneys connected to Abrams Fensterman, involving notable figures like a former city mayor’s chief of staff.

Critics, including Koslow, accuse Blakeman of auctioning county contracts and suggest that campaign contributions are linked to county business dealings. Koslow denounced this, portraying Blakeman’s fundraising as a form of corruption, highlighting the involvement of political and business figures supporting his campaign.

Despite the criticism, Koslow also saw grassroots support with nearly 100 individual donors, although their contributions were smaller. His backers include notable Democratic figures and progressive organizations. The election is scheduled for November 4.
