Man Suspected of Tossing 1-Year-Old Niece Down Trash Chute in Staten Island

A man on Staten Island is under police investigation after allegedly throwing his 1-year-old niece down a third-floor garbage chute. The incident occurred Monday afternoon at an apartment building located at 195 Steuben St.

Responding to reports of an emotionally disturbed individual inside the building around 3:15 p.m., officers found the young girl suffering a scrape on her torso, located three floors below the chute opening. She was promptly taken to Richmond University Medical Center for evaluation and was reported to be in stable condition.

The child’s 39-year-old uncle was taken in for questioning at the scene. Authorities have not yet filed charges, and the case remains under investigation.
