Stepson of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Placed on Psychiatric Hold After Fatal Shooting
Gregory Zecca, the stepson of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman, has been placed under a psychiatric hold following the accidental shooting and death of his 13-year-old son, Anthony Zecca.
Authorities intervened because Greg is experiencing profound grief over his son’s death, raising concerns he might harm himself. A family spokesperson confirmed that Greg is being closely monitored and emphasized that the hold is unrelated to any criminal guilt.
Gregory reportedly has not yet spoken to law enforcement or family members due to being heavily sedated. The incident occurred in their Naples, Florida apartment, where Greg fatally shot Anthony during an argument. The police found the weapon on the kitchen island, and despite immediate medical efforts, Anthony succumbed to his injuries two hours later.
According to the police report, Anthony had an entry wound on his neck, just above his sternum, with no exit wound. He had lost a significant amount of blood by the time help arrived. Emergency responders performed CPR and other life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the teenager was pronounced dead.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no arrests made at this stage. The family issued a statement expressing their grief and asking for continued prayers, describing the tragedy as an “incomprehensible accident.”
Gregory is the son of Dog’s wife, Francie Frane, whom he married in September 2021. Following the incident, social media users shared photos of Greg and Anthony at a shooting range, where they appeared cheerful and engaged in firearm practice.
Authorities noted that the firearm involved was on the kitchen island when deputies arrived. The family continues to grieve while law enforcement investigates the circumstances surrounding the accident.
